In 2021, Bugatti went under the control of Croato Rimac, a high -performance electric car specialist. While many expected a total transformation to the electric for the replacement of Chiron, Bugatti took a different direction. The new Bugatti Tourbillon, presented in Château Saint-Jean de Molsheim in Alsace, embodies a rechargeable hybrid philosophy. Mate Rimac insisted on the fact that the vortex keeps a thermal engine, despite market trends.
A new hybrid era
The Tourbillon Bugatti is not a simple step back with its heat engine. It adopts an unprecedented atmospheric V16 engine of 8.3 liters, developed by the British Cosworth, capable of providing 1,000 HP. This engine is integrated by an electric part of 800 HP, for an impressive total of 1,800 HP. This exceptional power places the vortex among the most powerful cars in the world, in competition with models such as Koenigsegg Gera.
Performance and technology
The performance of the Tourbillon Bugatti is breathtaking. Thanks to its three electric engines, one on the rear train and two on the front wheels, the vortex shows impressive accelerations. He passes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds, reached 200 km/h in 5 seconds and crosses the sign of 300 km/h in 10 seconds. Its maximum speed is 445 km/h. Compared to the Super Sport Chiron, bridle at 440 km/h, the Tourbillon marks considerable progress.
Light and advanced design
Despite the integration of hybrid technologies, the Bugatti Tourbillon is lighter than its predecessor. The new V16 engine weighs only 252 kg, compared to over 400 kg of the previous W16. The carbon Monocoque frame incorporates the battery, contributing to structural rigidity and weight gain. The Multibras aluminum suspension, designed using artificial intelligence and printed in 3D, also lightens the vehicle. This approach recalls the technology used by American Czinger.
A luxurious interior inspired by or watching
The interior of the Bugatti Tourbillon is a luxury and artisan masterpiece. The counters are inspired by high precision watchmaking, consisting of 600 pieces of titanium, sapphire and ruby. Unlike digital dashboard that are quickly stripped, these meters are designed to last and maintain their elegance over time. Christophe Pocochon, president of Bugatti, underlines that the Tourbillon is designed to participate in elegance competitions in one hundred years.
Refined and customizable external design
The external design of the Tourbillon Bugatti follows logical continuity with its predecessors by integrating unique elements. The rear lights remember the black car, a unique model, while the expanded grid and the gates of Elytre remember the Atlantic project. The possibility of customizing the finish with infinite shades and apparent carbon allows the owners to create a truly unique vehicle.
Exclusive production
Bugatti plans to produce only 250 copies of the vortex, a surprisingly low figure compared to the 500 copies of the Chiron. Despite a rate of 3.8 million euros, Bugatti should have no difficulty selling all copies. This exclusivity strengthens the brand’s aura and guarantees that each vehicle remains a collector’s object.
The Tourbillon Bugatti marks a turning point in the history of the brand, combining tradition and innovation under the aegis of Rimac. With an unprecedented V16 engine, breathtaking hybrid performance and an incomparable luxury, the vortex embodies the future of Bugatti while remaining faithful to its inheritance. This rechargeable hybrid model shows that Bugatti can embrace electrification without sacrificing its mechanical roots and its individual craftsmanship. The vortex is not only a technical undertaking, but also a work of art on wheels, designed to challenge time and trends.
