The origin of the Mercedes Benz brand

Are you one of those who ask themselves on the origin of Mercedes Benz? It is one of the most popular German cars brands in the world. In this article, we take stock of this topic that continues to arouse the curiosity of all the brand fans.

The merger between Daimler-Mercedes and Benz & Cie

Mercedes was the name of the daughter of the engineer Emil Jellinek who in 1900 contributed to the creation of the Mercedes 35 HP, the first racing car in history. In 1926, when the merger between Daimler-Mercedes and Benz & Cie was recited, the name of Mercedes-Benz was chosen given the great fame of the Mercedes 35 HP. Benz is the surname of one of the company founders.

Mercedes-Benz Logo: why a three-point star?

They were the children of Gottlieb Daimler, Adolf and Paul who had the idea of using a symbol in the form of a three -point star. This symbol reminded them that used by the father to mark their family home on postcards representing a vision of the city of Deutz. Thus, and in 1910, Mercedes vehicles began to show this logo on their grill. According to experts, the three -branches symbolize the use of suede engines both on the ground, at sea and in the air.

At the beginning, the three -randy pack star was used without the ring that surrounds it. He mainly adorned the radiators, but sometimes he was also visible on the lecote of the Mercedes cars, accompanied by the letter “Mercedes”.

The evolution of the logo

In 1925, Laurel’s star and crown were united to give birth to a new brand for the Mercedes-Benz brand. The requests for registration of the logo and the verbal brand “Mercedes-Benz” were therefore presented in 1925. This approach anticipated the merger between DMG and Benz & CIE in 1926. The arrangement of the new symbol maintains the circular nature of the previous symbols, the Mercedes Central Rims. The “Mercedes” letters, previously positioned on the lower edge of the ring, was moved upwards, while “Benz” remained in position. The two branches of the Mannheim Laurel brand took the place previously occupied by the small stars of Mercedes. The Laurier branches begin the letters “B” and “Z” and end with the letters “M” and “S”. Since then, the logo has practically moved.

Mercedes, a brand born from the obsession of the German manufacturer Jellinek for his daughter

Mercedes Adrienne Ramona Manuela Jellinek was Emil Jelinek’s first daughter. She was born in Vienna in 1889 in a rich family. The story says that her father had obsessive love for her!

After the installation of the family in Vienna in 1889, Jellinek baptized their vast house “Villa Mercedes”. When he participated in the races at the end of 1890, he did it under the name of “Herr Mercedes”. When he made an agreement with Daimler to order 36 cars as part of an exclusive sales agency, he expressly asked that these cars were carrying the name of his daughter, the Mercedes 35 HP (35 HP, in German) since 1901. Mr. Jellinek went further, appointing his personal Mercedes yacht! And in 1903, this enthusiast of automotive races legally changed the name of his family to Jellinek-Vercede. Whether it’s a pure obsession with his daughter or a deeply rooted belief in the idea that this name is lucky and luck, Jellinek has made the name Mercedes his personal sign.

After 120 years of existence, Mercedes always bears the name of this young woman who has had a fairly tragic life. According to an article published in 2001 in the New York Times, Mercedes Jellinek experimented with two failed weddings with Baroni, was forced to borrow and ask for charity from his neighbors and in the end he died poor in Vienna at the age of only 38 years!
